Luciano PAVAROTTI (1935-2007)
Today I want to pay tribute to three great singers who passed away recently – with Pavarotti sadly only passing away last week.
Who can forget Italia ‘90 when Nessun Dorma became the theme for that year’s football World Cup. But Pavarotti was so much more than a single aria. He had a wonderful voice which crossed cultural boundaries, everything he sung came to life. May the great man rest in peace.
Régine CRESPIN (1927-2007)
In July the great French singer Régine Crespin passed away - who can forget her sultry french voice, enough to bleed any heart. I first heard her singing Offenbach’s La Périchole on radio where her sexy sultry singing made me determined to track more of her stuff.
Elisabeth SCHWARZKOPF (1915-2006)
August last year we lost another beautiful voice – Elisabeth Schwarkopf. Her soprano voice had a fragility yet strangely at the same time a hardened steel about it that sounded unique. I recommend her singing Strauss Four Last Songs or Mozart Concert Arias….truly outstanding.
